THE FV

The FV is a revolutionary guitar that brings the clarity and immediacy of the Viennese guitar tradition into contemporary archtop design. Created in collaboration with renowned guitarist Frank Vignola, this guitar is available in both studio and premier designs, each showcasing Frank's unique vision and style.

Crafted with a much thinner soundboard than typically used for archtop guitars, the FV allows for a lower break angle tension at the bridge and features a unique hybrid bracing style, found only on the Thorell Gianina and FV models. The back is carved from a standard 1" thick mahogany plate, resulting in a versatile sound that ranges from woody and sweet with strong picking attacks to dark and mellow with a light approach.

The FV features a 15-inch lower bout, with short and long scale options available. The ebony fretboard and appointments provide a stunning contrast against the hand-selected spruce and mahogany used in the studio model, while the FV premier offers a choice of figured walnut, maple or figured myrtle. The hide glue dovetail neck, wood binding, and slim C-carve neck add to the guitar's sleek and sophisticated design. With a 12" radius and an overall open quality to the tone, the FV provides a relaxed and comfortable playing experience for guitarists of all levels.

 JP CUT

resizeDSC_9181.jpg

Introducing the JP-Carve - a guitar ten years in the making that is finally ready for you to experience. The design was originally created for the Montreal Guitar Festival in 2009 and quickly sold to one of my favorite guitarists, Joshua Payne. He described it as an acoustic Les Paul, with the ability to react to your playing in astounding ways. Whether you're driving the guitar hard for defined volume or playing delicately for nuanced tonal layers, the JP-Carve delivers.

One of the key benefits of this design is its ergonomic fit for a full-bodied guitar, made possible by extending the bass vibrational soundboard area. And with a hand-selected high-grade mahogany and one-piece old growth Sitka spruce construction, the JP-Carve is a guitar that not only looks beautiful but sounds amazing too. Plus, with options for figured maples and other seasonal woods, you can truly make this guitar your own.

Available in both 15 and 16-inch lower bout sizes, and with short and long scale options, the JP-Carve is versatile enough to meet any guitarist's needs. The guitar also features an ebony fretboard and appointments, hide glue dovetail neck, grained ivroid binding, slim C carve neck, and a 12” radius. Check out our pricing page for more specs and get ready to experience the JP-Carve - a guitar that's sure to inspire your playing.

ACOUSTIC PUNCH WITH GAIN AND SUSTAIN

Hand carved and finely tuned european spruce soundboard is x braced and fit to a one piece acoustically tuned mahogany body. Humbucker is made in house and mated to the instrument. Ebony appointments are used throughout with a fixed ebony tail design. I strive to employ all of the finer elements of archtop guitar building in to an instrument that feels like a light weight full thickness carved top electric guitar. This build growls and spanks when cranked through an amp and sings and sways when played soft but can voice acoustically with suprising fullness and satisfaction.

 JP-157

Just as John Pizzarelli would have it

Also available in 6 string

This guitar features an exciting and proprietary construction featuring premium top shelf Spruce and Figured Maple in shop made plates bent before laminating to 100 year aged pine interior woods. The plates are then carved to yield carved solid plate graduations. This proprietary process yields a vibrant acoustic sound that is full of character yet affords the feedback resistance and humidity stability of lamination. This process is more similar to high end double top classical guitars than laminated arch tops. Truly unique and full of old world tone.

The tailpiece is carved by hand in house from solid Nickel Silver. This stout design gives an excellent tonality with out metallic harmonics.

The neck plays fast and straight like all of Ryan’s handmade guitars. The built in Charlie Christian pickup is custom made to accommodate 7 strings. It has a lovely full character but is quiet and very workable for a single coil pickup.

GIANINA

GIANINA

Introducing the Gianina - a guitar born out of a passionate desire to create a unique and awe-inspiring instrument. Commissioned by a client, this guitar blends the drive and thump of an archtop, the warmth and depth of a nylon, and the breathy-throaty sustain of a Selmer-Maccaferri. The result is a stunning guitar with a sound that's unlike any other.

Crafted with hand-selected aged spruce for the top and European maple for the back and sides, the Gianina boasts unique bracing and graduation, meticulously designed by Ryan to deliver an exciting extraction of the above-mentioned guitars' tonal quality. The dark, rich Cocobolo and ebony inlays contrast beautifully against the lighter spruce and maple, creating a striking aesthetic.

Featuring a slightly narrower neck than a classical guitar at 1 7/8", the Gianina's action and playability are incredibly smooth, making it a great choice for both fingerstyle and plectrum playing.

With a 15.5-inch lower bout, 25.5-inch scale, and handcrafted with HIDE GLUE DOVETAIL NECK and Natural Wood Bindings, the Gianina is a guitar that's sure to turn heads. Check out our pricing page for more information on this exquisite instrument.
